In meditation it's said that the pause between the in breath and the out breath is a gap, a space to rest. Well, I'm in that in-between space for reading, listening and knitting.
This is a random photo of a highlight of my week - I filled up my lolly jar. These are just supermarket party mix. During the lockdowns, we sources a great pick-and-mix delivery service, but at some point they started sending from the UK, which is a bit silly. Rachey messaged me a new one she found, and I impulsed purchased a kilo of mixed lollies, and then she sent me a link to the biggest lolly shop in Melbourne, which also delivers sweets by the kilogram, so i think I'm sorted for the rest of the year!
In reading I've just finished The Beckoning Lady by Margery Allingham. It's the second last book in the Summer of Mystery, and I have to admit, having now read nine Margery Allingham books, that they are OK. I wouldn't have read them if they were not connected to this club, but once I start something I generally finish it, whether I'm enjoying it or not.
I will be reading one more Margery Allingham and then The Red House Mystery by A.A. Milne. For some reason (probably because it's just out of copyright) I've been given a review copy of a hundred year old book. Anyway, I'm not reading that yet, I think I'll try to get Book of Lost Threads by Tess Evans | Goodreads from the library, since I can now borrow library books.
In audiobooks I'm also at the end of The Break by Marian Keyes | Goodreads.
It's good, but it was a very long listen, with many details- although I'm always complaining about women's fiction were the main character only has one friend and / or a sister and this is a rich tapestry of friends, family, work colleagues, political issues and so on. I've enjoyed it, but it's also a bit exhausting. I think next I'll use an audible credit on The Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley. I don't always love time travel, but this one sounds interesting and everyone is talking about it.
In knitting I've just finished the toe of the socks I started last week and am using more of the left over yarn to make a hat, which I am going to cast on tonight. See, I am very much in the in between.
Come back on Friday and I'll tell you all about the sock and hat design!
To read my all my book reviews, and to see everything I knit, you can find me on Ravelry as Sharondoubleknit and on GoodReads as Sharondblk.
I'm joining in with Kat from As Kat Knits for Unravelled Wednesday and Kat from the Bookdate for It's Monday, What Are You Reading. This week I'm also linking up with Sam from Taking on
a World of Words for WWW Wednesday where we talk about what we are currently reading, what we have just finished and what we are going to read next.
The jar of sweets looks yummy. We get kilos of sweets sometimes. It's crazy where these things are shipped from!
ReplyDeleteThe books sound good. I've been reading mysteries.
Have a great week!

Pretty socks. I have read Margery Allingham in the dim and distent pass, but I bet they are dated now.
ReplyDeleteI am a big mystery fan but I have to admit one Allingham book was enough for me. Did your Summer of Mystery require reading the whole series? That seems like a lot. I've heard good things about the AA Milne book and plan to read it myself at some point.
ReplyDeleteI love your socks. Look forward to hearing what you think of the Marian Keyes book, I used to read her a lot but haven't in the last few years.
ReplyDeleteTime travel is fun if it’s done well, but it can easily fall flat too. I’ll be interested to hear what you think of the Ministry of Time. Your socks are beautiful!
