I haven't had as much time to read as I would like this week - I don't think any of us have as much time as we would like to read any week, do we? The main reason for my busyness is trying to get to 23 pubs in 10 days. (I explain what is going on here: Weekending - the first Pint of Origin 2025 weekend)
I'm reading a review book: The Master Jeweler by Weina Dai Randel. It's an historical, set in Shanghai between WW1 and WW11 and it's about a master jeweler. I'm enjoying it, but there is something missing here for me - I can't quite connect with the main character, who is not like the other girls.
It's certainly not bad, unlike the audiobook I have been listening to for three weeks Chai Time at Cinnamon Gardens by Shankari Chandran. It's a highly rated book, but I'm finding it fairly tedious - trauma, trauma, trauma followed by a lecture on racism. I'd quit, but I've only got two hours to go and I'm no quitter. The being out all the time has given me lots of time for knitting. I'm making Bear Paw Socks pattern by Andrea Mowry, out of left overs and to match my last jumper. A quick, satisfying 8ply sock.
They look enormous, but fit perfectly, because of the ribbing. I'll tell you all about them on Friday, when I'll be back to do a FO post.Next up in reading is probably Sarah Painter's The Gilded Nest, which is the ninth in the Crow Investigation series. It's also the reason I'm keeping Kobo plus for another month, so I'll be reading as much as I can from there. I am also going to read The Divorcetante, (Netgalley) which looks like a really fun rom-com, so we'll see what I'm in the mood for when I get there.
I'm joining in with Kat from As Kat Knits for Unravelled Wednesday and Kat from the Bookdate for It's Monday, What Are You Reading. This week I'm also linking up with Sam from Taking on a World of Words for WWW Wednesday where we talk about what we are currently reading, what we have just finished and what we are going to read next.
The pub thing sounds exciting. There are so many pubs near me 🤣 and so many more have closed which is sad.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the last few hours of that book. I don't quit either!
Have a great week!

What a shame you aren't enjoy Chai Time. I really enjoy it, but I do understand the trauma and then more trauma thing. All the books I have read by her have a bit of that!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy Pint of Origin!
Have a great week!
I've got the Chai Time book next to my bed, I hope I enjoy it more than you are, but I totally get the trauma thing, it can get too much.
