This week I'm linking up for the first time with Kat and Unravelled Wednesday, where people talk about what they are reading and knitting. Although mainly I'm going to talk about what I've been reading - the knitting is taken care of by the dress, which is progressing well, I'll probably get the body finished by the weekend.
I finished a NetGalley review book gods with a little g, by Tupelo Hassman. Sometimes it's hard to categorise a book, which makes it hard to review it, and much harder to give it a score out of five. Sometimes I find the whole Netgalley / Goodreads scoring thing frustrating. Some books don't need a score, they are what they are. This book is sweet and sad and hopeful, and self contained and sure of itself. I initially found the short chapters offputting, but it works very well with the tone of the book. The ending was maybe a bit too sweet, but that could just be my cynical old heart talking, and the journey to get there was a lovely, happy / sad trip.
Now I'm reading another NetGalley gift, A is for Archive. It's a series of essays and photos related to Andy Warhol and it's very interesting. If you are interested in Andy Warhol, which I am.
I'm also reading Alice Hoffman's The Dove Keepers. I'm enjoying it, but it's also quite dry. The POV has changed three times already, and I suspect will change once or twice more, which feels unnecessary and a bit gimmicky.
And that's my week in knitting and reading. Hope you're having a good one too.

Welcome and I am so happy you have joined us!
ReplyDeleteI too find the book rating system sometimes a bit odd. And, I have read some NetGalley books, but the last few had really been not so impressive. I have not looked at any titles there, but perhaps I should again!
I go through phases with NetGalley, and right now I'm obsessed!
DeleteI think the book ratings are so personal. I also prefer the Goodreads reviews that do something besides recounting the plot. The dress looks interesting.
ReplyDeleteSo true. I need to know WHY someone liked, or didn't like it.
