I finished these two baby surprise jackets this week, but between them they have 10 buttons to sew on, and sewing on buttons is not my favourite thing.
Blocked photos when they have had their bath, which is right after I sew the buttons on, which is right after I press "publish" on this, since the babies they are for are already born.
I threw together a sock knitting kit on Monday night, since I was short on time and didn't have any knitting on the go. I used this neon Socks Yeah that I bought in Edinburgh (from Rachel Coopey herself, thank for asking) and if that won't brighten these grey winter days nothing will! I'm knitting a pair of shorty socks my Trudy Hertaas, one of my favourite short sock designers. This photo doesn't actually capture the true brightness of the neon pink yarn.
My intention was to finish these during the week and then start Chuck on the weekend, but I'm home sick today, so I cast on for it. It's only 4pm and I've already done the back to the underarms, so if i spend the rest of the day sitting on couch, which is my intention, I may get down to join for the underarms today. Oh the joy of worsted yarn and 4.5mm needles!
I'm reading As Dust Dances by Samantha Young. It's a well written romance, and I'm enjoying it. I think I got it from the "Romance Book of the Month Club", a thing where every month I get an email with a link to a free romance book. Mostly they are books I'm not interested in, but this looked like my kind of book, and I am really enjoying it.
I don't think I've mentioned it here, but I always have an audiobook on the go. I've really struggled the last few weeks to find something that resonates with me, but the other day, on Katherine's recommendation, I started The First Bad Man by Miranda July. Strange, compelling and really interesting, although the cover leaves something to be desired!
And that's what I'm up to on this First Wednesday of August. I'm linking up with Kat from As Kat Knits, and Ginny and the yarnalong. I recommend popping over to both (or either of them) to see what they, and everyone else is knitting, reading and getting up to this week.

LOVE that black? navy? striped Baby Surprise!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I dyed the dark (navy) myself, so I'm particularity proud of it.
DeleteThose socks will brighten winter days for sure. I haven't knit a Baby Surprise for quite some time. Your post reminds we what a fun pattern it is. I'm pretty sure I could knit one from some DK scraps. Maybe soon.
ReplyDeleteBaby Surprise Jackets are my most favorite baby gift to knit - and I LOVE your two darling versions! I have yet to knit a striped one but my hope is that my daughter will be telling me a new grandchild is on the way so I can knit one! (Hint for future BSJ buttons - I sew the button together with a clear button, making a sort of a 'cuff link' - that way the buttons can be easily removed and switched for a new baby!)
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting, thanks for the button tip.
