I notice I've been requesting fewer books from NetGalley, and I've only got 8 in my "to be read" pile. I Fear my Pain Interests You was published yesterday, and I've been putting off reading it, but after reading two excellent non-review books (Godsgrave and The Vampire Knitting Club) I thought i'd better get to it. The only reason I'm finishing it is because it's short. The main character is entitled, unpleasant and unlikable. The plot... oh wait, there isn't one. I'm halfway through and, although we have covered Margot's childhood, adolescence and tedious college, it also feels like nothing has happened. Most of the writing is word salad. It reads like a first draft that no-one bothered revising. Even the cover is uninspiring.
I'm up to the sleeves of my test knit. It's looking good. Apparently it will grow on blocking. We'll see:
It's also the stage of the project where I'm convinced that it won't fit, and it's not knitted in a quality way and the project is going to be an abject failure. I've jut got the sleeves to go, but it's a slow business. And that's my week in reading and knitting. To read my all my book reviews, and to see everything I knit, you can find me on Ravelry as Sharondoubleknit and on GoodReads as Sharondblk.
I'm joining in with Kat from As Kat Knits for Unravelled Wednesday and Kat from the Bookdate for It's Monday, What Are You Reading. Thanks Kat and Kat for hosting these linkups.
Your sweater looks like it is a brioche version of Carbeth. Is that right?
ReplyDeleteHuh, I hadn't thought of it that way! The "v" at the front does give it that look, but it's actually quite different.
DeleteLove your review of the book you are reading, sounds so unreadable! Your test knit is looking really great.
ReplyDeleteNice looking sweater. Awful sounding book! I just can't stay away from NetGalley. I have 37 but the publication dates stretch out until next April. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI request too many books from NetGalley for me to keep up with, too! It's very guilt-inducing -- much like craft projects, for me! :D I'm reading some books by local authors and it's often easy to see why they are self-published, but sometimes they can surprise.
