Last week I said that my winning streak had broken, but I got back on track with some 5 star reads. (I'm still putting a * next to Netgalley review books, rather than explaining in the text what they are).
I read the Very Impressive For Your Age by Eleanor Kirk.* I really enjoyed this one, it was a bit of a quarter-life crisis book. I've read a few of these in the last couple of months, and this one was my favourite. Young women trying to find themselves is a thing. I've been one, and I love reading about that point.
Now I've got a bit of a break between review books. I'm reading Him by Geoff Ryman, a book I got as part of a sci-fi/fantasy bundle. The description is : In the village of Nazareth, virgin Maryam and the wife of Yosef barLevi gives birth to a miracle: a little girl. She is named Avigayil, after her grandmother. But as Avigayil grows, it’s clear she believes that she is destined to be someone greater than just the daughter of Maryam. From fighting with the village boys to challenging the priests in the temple, Avigayil is determined to find her way. And then comes the day when Avigayil declares that not only is she a boy, but she is also the Son of God. A gripping, thoughtful sci-fi novel, tackling family, the multiverse and the survival of love through immense change and crisis. So far I'm enjoying it - it's very well written, if a strange subject matter. I'm not sure where the science fiction comes in, at the moment it reads like many historical enactments, like The Red Tent.
Next up- I haven't decided. I'll have a good look at the older books on my Kobo and start reading from the bottom of the pile. It might be Traitor's Blade (Greatcoats, #1) by Sebastien de Castell or something else.
I'm listening to Vianne by Joanne Harris, which is the prequel to Chocolat. I said last week I had watched the movie to try to fill myself in, but the movie was set in the 1950s and the book is in the 1990s! There are a lot of other important differences. I'm enjoying the audiobook and I'll probably listen to Chocolat next.
I mentioned last week that I'd just started a cardigan. that's going well:
Just one sleeve and the button band to go! Although the buttonband in double-knit, and that means it will not be a fast finish.
To read my all my book reviews, and to see everything I knit, you can find me on Ravelry as Sharondoubleknit and on GoodReads as Sharondblk. I'm on BlueSky as Sharondblk.
I'm joining in with Kat from As Kat Knits for Unravelled Wednesday, Kat from the Bookdate for It's Monday, What Are You Reading and Sam from Taking on a World of Words for WWW Wednesday where we talk about what we are currently reading, what we have just finished and what we are going to read next.
