The reading hasn't been great this week (with one notable exception). On Saturday I was unwell (my own fault, I had a bit too much fun on Friday night). I started Beartown by Fredrik Backman, and just could not get into it. I thought it might be me, but then I started Night Swimmers by Roisin Maguire, which I've had since 2024. This is such a touching story of families and loss. It's written in a beautiful, pared back style. After that I thought I would get on with my NetGalley books, Too Glam to Give a Damn by Claire Carver. I'm not very far into it, but there is so much explaining and super obvious indications of what's going to happen. Although I could be wrong, and this book could be a lot more subtle and clever than I think it's going to be. The three friends remind me of the ones from season 3 of White Lotus. And while I'm struggling with the descriptions of food, the translating things into Greek (becasue they are in Greece) and the info dumping, Claire Carver wrote a book. I haven't written a book, and I think that demands some respect. But I don't have to finish it, I just have to get to (at least) 25 percent and then leave a review that is honest, and kind.
I'm listening to Bachelorettes by Rosa Rankin-Gee, a sapphic romance which was free through Audible Plus, and it is fine. Kind of predictable, but the narrators are great.I've mainly been dedicating myself to charity knitting this week - using up some 8-pky and keeping children in Ukraine warm is a double win! I've made mittens and socks and I'm just making a matching hat before moving on / back to summer knitting for me. I haven't cast on the hat yet, but it will only take me a day or so to finish it.
I'm joining in with Kat from As Kat Knits for Unravelled Wednesday, Kat from the Bookdate for It's Monday, What Are You Reading and Sam from Taking on a World of Words for WWW Wednesday where we talk about what we are currently reading, what we have just finished and what we are going to read next.
