Heading off

We are leaving on a three week holiday and I am quite excited. As usual we are not making like easy for ourselves. We are starting with a long weekend in Warburton, for a trail  running festival. Leon is doing a 50km, and I'm running 14kms. Our friends Kris, Katie, Skip and Bee are coming to play, so it should be really fun. Then Kris, Leon and I are flying to Adelaide for a week of Fringe shows. Kris will then fly home (with all off Leon and my nice clothes) and Leon and I are going hiking. Five days and four nights - the longest I have been out consecutively.  I'm pretty excited to be heading for the trails, hiking is one of those hobbies where there is never enough opportunities, and we haven't been out since the Little Desert in August last year (which is actually not that long ago). Then we have few days in Victor Harbour, which sounds like a relaxing place to be, before we walk to McLaren Vale and visit some wineries. I'll be knitting Leon's winter s...

Linky Wednesday - 10/2024

I'm back at work and back to normal, which means a little less time for reading and crafting. I've read three excellent books in a row -  Mrs Gulliver   by Valerie Martin (a NetGalley review book about love) The Real Deal   which is also about love. Maybe I'm just interpreting everything as being about love! And now I am ready a NetGalley copy of The Glass House by Anne Biust and Graeme Simsion.   I've read a few things by Graeme Simsion, but I wasn't that excited about starting this. Well, I started it yesterday and I can't put it down. It's compelling - the story of a junior doctor who wants to be a psychiatrist, and her colleagues and patients. It's like watching your friends live their lives or something. I just want to read! So good. I've almost finished knitting the hat I started on Thursday, I just need to graft together the start and finish. It's really pretty, but wasn't great for knitting in public, because there was a lot of coun...

FO Friday - 2 successes, 1 near miss and one outcome unknown

What a week it's been! As I mentioned last post, I got sick on Saturday night, and have been in my house with very little energy all week. I think because I am normally so active, I still had the energy for yarn-crafts and reading, just nothing more taxing.  I was part way through plying for the Traveller Shawl  , which I finished. I love it, it's fluffy and pretty. the only problem is that it also only 550 metres, and I needed 800. Ooops, by "don't sample, don't measure" spinning style strikes again. I might make a cowl for Elise instead. A couple of weeks ago I cast on a crotchet tea cosy for my mother-in-law. She has a rather odd shaped tea pot, so I was winging it a bit. despite my recent crotchet experience, I really struggled to keep my stitch count on this. The whole thing looked like a rag... and then I did the top, and it came together. I haven't finished it, since I think doing the final rounds with the tea-pot will make it fit better, and they l...
