Yarnalong - the one with the paper book

I've been reading novel exclusively on my Kindle since I bought my first one, over three years ago. I just adore it. A couple of months ago I finished City of Stairs and bought the next book in the series, City of Blades, using Amazon 1-click. I happened to review the ;purchase email and realised I had accidentally bought the paper book. I immediately tried to return it. Amazon accepted the return, but sent me the book anyway. So I'm reading a paper book, and it's quite challenging. Even just holding it is more stressful on my poor hands than the Kindle, and I keep on forgetting to put my bookmark back in when I'm done.


Ahh, my bookmark. I love this bookmark. It's by Bookrug and is so pretty, and has a lovely texture. I guess before I was obsessed with Kindle covers I obsessed about bookmarks.

As for actual content, I'm enjoying the book. I'm not very far into it yet, but it has the same tone as it's predecessor. 

I'm still knitting  Vitamin D cardigan. It's going well, I can't show a good photo, because I'm doing the shortrows so it's all bunched up on the needle.

    I love a good bookmark, although I also read mostly on my kindle now too! I look forward to seeing your finished Vitamin D!

    I love a nice bookmark too. These days I do a lot of book reading via library downloads on my mobile, occasionally on my Kindle and rarely in paper (real) form. I love the convenience of reading on my mobile, oh and sometimes I have an audible book so I can do something else at the same time. Like knitting :)

    Oh, Vitamin D cardigan is on my list from a while too!! The best thing of owning a tablet is that I can read while knit, somehow reading a paper book is not always managable for me... Lovely bookmark too :)

Unravelled wednesday and WAYRN - the one where I prepare

We are heading off for some camping and hiking and general R&R on Friday, so I'm currently in planning and preparing mode. Yarnalong - the one with the final bit of transport

Remember how I took every form of transport known to man a fortnight ago? Well, I was missing just one thing, suburban trains. But today I got to remedy that, knitting my way to Dandenong for work. Yay? My Char jumper has been knitting up ridiculously fast. It's easy, pleasant and a well written pattern. I'm reading Rachael Herron's latest book The Ones Who Matter Most . It's a good read so far, family centered fiction, easy to read but still emotionally challenging. I'm listening to Evelyn Waugh's Men At Arms . I'm enjoying it, I didn't really know what to expect, but some of it reminds me of Catch 22, in that it catalogues the absurdities of war and bureaucracy. The narrator has the perfect upper crust English accent and I'm very pleased it's the first of a trilogy.   And that's another week of reading, knitting and catching trains everywhere for me. Why Andrea Mowry, why? (A rant and a rather nice finished object)

As mentioned, prior to our hiking trip I suddenly, and rather randomly, decided to knit  Andrea Morwy's Traveler Shell . It's basically an open fronted rectangle in a knit purl pattern. The pattern is FOURTEEN pages long. Why is the pattern 14 pages long? Because, instead of explaining the ten row repeat and then putting the shaping on top of that (e.g. decrease while continuing to knit in pattern), she writes out the entire ten row knit purl sequence every time something changes. Additionally, most of the time she starts with even number being the right side and wrong numbers being the right side,which is just plain odd. It's confusing and it's like she wants to keep you looking at the pattern for every row, rathe than following the very intuitive stitch pattern, which I had memorised after one repeat.  The instructions for the band just say 'pick up x number of stitches'. No ratios, no acjnowledgement that different bits of the band have different ratios. Afte...
