About four years ago I bought 12 pairs of anklets from . www.catchoftheday.com.au Due to that website being a little bit ... odd I think i ended up with 18 pairs. I wear them every time I ride, which is at least 5 days a week. Since I knit me first socks at the end of 2008 I haven't bought socks. Now it strikes me that soon my old sneaker liners are going wear out. So, I could buy some or I could make my own. I already have three pairs of anklets, and a bit of time before all my shop bought anklets go to sock heaven. So I started with a Priscilla Gibson-Roberts plain sock, from Interweave Knits Favorite (sic) Socks. PGR has spent a lot of time investigating what she thinks are the best design for socks, and basically it's a short row heel followed by a short row toe. Which is what I did here.
Now I have small feet, so basically I knit the heel, did a couple of stripes and knit the toe. I don't like working short row heels and toes. The only way I can describe it is I find them emotionally uncomfortable. And I really don't like the way they look. Sort of gappy. Still they are the first pair of this project and they will certainly do the job. Plus, they are stripy and there is much to be said for stripy socks.
Ah Wednesday, you come around so fast. I feel like every Unravelled and Yarnalong since I finished The Dress, I’ve said ‘I’ve just finished something small, and I’m about to start something else small, but I’ve been working on my Blankie”, and this week was almost like that. I’ve almost finished a pair of baby booties, which I will photograph properly and talk about on Thursday for Once Upon a Sock.
I was going to knit something small next, because I really didn’t have any major knitting plans (except the blanket, the endless blanket) BUT. Sonia of Richmond Knitters fame is knitting a Soldotna Crop to wear to Bendigo. At least two of the other knitters are as well. I was joking that I would knit one, but I don’t have the yarn. Sonia decided she wouldn’t let that stop me, and said she would find some yarn for me in her stash. At this point I thought we were joking, but no. On the weekend I got a text from her with some stunning yarn selections. I didn’t go to Knit Night this Monday (I…

Awesome stripes, the upside-down photo is almost 'dizzying' :)
ReplyDelete*So* cute! I'm also prejudiced against short row heels, but I think that's mostly because they're shaped wrong for my feet ...
