Yarnalong - The one where I readalong with Ginny

Last week Ginny, the host of this Yarnalong, mentioned that she was about to start reading Orphan Train. This book has come across my radar a couple of times, so I decided to read along with Ginny. I'm loving this book. I'm about half way through and I can't stop reading it.

 I'm listening to The Cuckoo's Calling, by Robert Galbraight. I've been saving this for a week when i have lots of travel, which is next week. I am loving it as much as I loved the previous book in the series, which is quite a lot.

 And finally, I'm still knitting Leon's jumper.  I've divided for the neck, and am just making that middle cable up as I go along, which is both fun and scary.

    Orphan Train really is a good read and I'm glad you're enjoying it too.

Linky Wednesday - the one with the pause

In meditation it's said that the pause between the in breath and the out breath is a gap, a space to rest. Well, I'm in that in-between space for reading, listening and knitting. This is a random photo of a highlight of my week - I filled up my lolly jar. These are just supermarket party mix. Geogradiant MKAL Part 1 - that was unexpected (spoilers)

Stephen West released the first MKAL clue on Thursday night. I started knitting it without looking at spoilers. When I got up on Friday he had sent through an "alternative" clue one. I then went and had a look at the spoiler thread to try to work out what was going on. Which was that some people thought the pattern looked like a "German hate symbol". I knit on anyway, since I was half-way through. Then he took down the original clue, replacing it with a mitred square in garter stitch. The Ravelry forums and Instagram are a complete shit-show, even though Rav is being moderated. It's been a bit disheartening, having something that is usually quite light and fun weighed down with all this. I admire Stephen's quick and sensitive response to this drama. I also feel that anything can look like anything if you squint. To me this looks like a Celtic knot. I think mine is pretty, and I'll knit on through all crises.

Linky Wednesday - welcome to sOctober

Happy sOctober to those who celebrate. This week's reading was a bit of a mixed bag.  I read a review copy of  The Day He Disappeared   by Catherine Miller , although I ended up skim reading it because it was a very tedious book. Poorly written, repetitious, predictable and boring. Now I'm reading  The End of the Playboy by Harlin Hailey  which is a sort of midlife crisis Hollywood satire. Or a reflection on aging and society, I'm not sure which. I am enjoying it though.  Then I've got two more review books, the Amazon Original short story  When We Were Friends by Jane Green    And  Bad Reputation by Emma Barry A romance that I requested purely on the basis of that cover! In audio I decided to finally try  Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke  because it's 34 hours long and I felt like I was getting through my credits too fast.
