The books have been all NetGalley for this week. I finished The Red House Mystery by A.A. Milne, which made me realise that I just don't really like golden age of mystery books much. It did take me 10 novels to realise that. I guess I'm a slow learner! Then I read Frankie by Graham Norton.
It's a very wholesome story of Frankie, who is 80 a telling her life story to her carer, in flashbacks. It's very character driven, and I'm enjoying it immensely. I hadn't read any Graham Norton (and until I just looked him up I think I was confusing him with Julian Clarey, oops) and it's a really well written, immersive story. I know I said last week that this was my last review book for the month, but NetGalley was offering the Amazon Original Natural Selection: A Short Story by Elin Hilderbrand, so that's up next.I'm also listening to a NetGalley book - Rachel Weiss's Group Chat by Lauren Appelbaum.
It's the story of the eponymous Rachel Weiss, who is 30, works a job she does not like, dates inappropriate men - she's a bit of a hot mess. Often I would find a book like this tedious, but something about the way the narrator is reading it - it's like that friend you have who tells you stories that you know are largely true, but might be made bigger for dramatic effect. Also, Rachel has more than one friend, and she has a sister and she is constantly celebrating and supporting these women ,and their successes. I am here for that! I only requested this because Rachel and I share a last name, but I'm really enjoying it.
To complete the NetGalley party I'm writing a non-fiction review post, so if you enjoy those pop back in on Friday.
The knitting is going well. I'm doing a reknit of the Alma cardigan, this time for Elise. I joined for the yoke after only a week of knitting, and my hands are not thanking me for it. I'd say I'm going to slow down, but I doubt that very much!
To read my all my book reviews, and to see everything I knit, you can find me on Ravelry as Sharondoubleknit and on GoodReads as Sharondblk.I'm joining in with Kat from As Kat Knits for Unravelled Wednesday and Kat from the Bookdate for It's Monday, What Are You Reading. This week I'm also linking up with Sam from Taking on a World of Words for WWW Wednesday where we talk about what we are currently reading, what we have just finished and what we are going to read next.
Graham Norton is a lovely man. I can believe that his books are nice. I shall look out for them.
ReplyDeleteMy friend is a big Graeme Norton fan, the be only read one of his books and it was good but a bit depressing. Happy reading.
