I'm reading Empire of the Damned by Jay Kristoff. It's the second in the series, and it's a very dark take on vampires. I loved the first book, which I read when it came out in 2021. I remember sitting in the park that spring, when it was just (probably) legal to sit in parks. And now it's spring 3 years later and I'm loving this dark action adventure. The third one doesn't have a release date yet, and I really do have to stop starting series that are not finished yet!
Empire of the Damned is 700 pages long, it's been a while since I read a book that I could really get my teeth into (pun intended). Next up is And Then It Was September by Wendy Day. I got it through NetGalley, but it's also free on Amazon and through Kindle Unlimited. I mainly requested it for the cover, although this is the tagline: A missing necklace, a backpack full of photos, and two women trying to outrun their families' expectations. It sounds like a good read.
In audio, last week's listen was Rachel Weiss's Group Chat by Lauren Appelbaum was a Pride and Prejudice retelling. I last listened to Pride and Prejudice in 2012, and I'm very much enjoying my re-listen.
I'm knitting a mystery gnome! For those who are not familiar with such things, a designer designs an object (in this case a gnome) and then the knitters get a clue for each part of the project, released over the course of, in this case a few weeks. I know I'm knitting a gnome, and I know how much yarn I need, and the rest is a surprise. We've had two clues so far, and this is what I have:
Presumably a nose and a hat, but who knows what those green tubes are for.To read my all my book reviews, and to see everything I knit, you can find me on Ravelry as Sharondoubleknit and on GoodReads as Sharondblk.
I'm joining in with Kat from As Kat Knits for Unravelled Wednesday and Kat from the Bookdate for It's Monday, What Are You Reading. This week I'm also linking up with Sam from Taking on a World of Words for WWW Wednesday where we talk about what we are currently reading, what we have just finished and what we are going to read next.
If I waited to read a series until it was done, there are so many great ones I would never start. Then again, most of mine tend to be long running mystery series, not planned trilogies, which is what your vampire book sounds like.
ReplyDeleteI considered joining Kindle Unlimited but as I already use NetGalley, I thought that might be overkill on my part. And I couldn't keep up with having more books available! Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteYour books do sound good. I read lots of series before they are complete, but sometimes the wait is really hard. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI like the sound of the Ajay Kristoff series and the Wendy Day novel, I've added them to my eternal wishlist. I also love the idea of the mystery gnome, I wish I could knot, alas I will have to make do with painting.
